(Self-relief, digital)
On paper, the combination of these two artists makes good commercial understanding. The Road Island wrappers Todestool had a large year in 2023, providing a group of head-turning projects and established itself as the regional force of nature. The Vermonter Rico James has been on a uniform arc, taking advantage of the years of its local success in a growing profile on the view of the large east coast.
All this on one side: If you authentically love Verdi, creative rap music on dirty boom-bap beats, then you are in luck. The outskirts of Dreamland have a strong contribution to subculture from two unrelatedly unique styles from purists.
Rico James is in peak form here, which distributes juicy melodic beats which are bang even without mercy. Toadstool is a real gift for stacking a condemnable flow, a laid-back but animated delivery and syllable pattern.
There is no need for facilities in other words. The opener “Broken Roof” immediately makes the case that gives a playful, lyrical exercise on the Breezi Summer Fun. Nevertheless, it is a dark, brooding mourning, the manifesto of an artist dying of hunger.
He takes the Somaras Note title to the track. “I have never grinded hard,” Todestool sees politely, but that piece is the nature but is ordinary. Between its dense spirals and their machine-gun Stakko Taal of alliance and references, their performance gives zero concessions to casual listeners.
Fil again “you know what you know,” a slow-hitting anthem changes with a double-time hook. Toadstool creates the largest pocket here, often pushed beyond the tempo with its complex bars. Doing this on a beat that could easily be a dipset mixtap single in 2002, hela is strange, but I would have to respect his faith.
Closing cut “One long badd day” is probably the strongest single of the batch. A driving ’90s throbacs made a perfect horn loop and some scrutining guitar chops, the song is an innocent win. The hook manages the nail to the rock sweet place to be attractive and disqualified simultaneously.
It is an EP that demands a sequel, if there is not a full LP-although we should get angry with our hopes, given that these two busy friends are making their way through a rich era for underground hip-hop. No matter what the future is, there is a crown jewel for both allies on the outskirts of Dreamland.
It is also a will how the best releases are also the best releases in the digital age of continuous materials. If you enjoy this, I excessive recommends that the chaos of Todestool 2023 albums Au!: Side A and Rico James Project Language of Spirits of Spirits of Spirits Nockouts Packed with underground legends.
First, however, hits the rwind and run the entire EP again. Even as a lifelong Afficionado of Wild -style lyricalism, I first recalled a ton great lines.
