Charleston, W.V.

Fanning, D-Macdowell, died at the age of 89 last month.

John Pat Fanning

Fanning served in the Senate for more than 30 years in three different periods. He first appointed in June 1968. He served till 1980. He was re -elected in 1984 and served a word until 1988. The third term of fanning in the Senate was his longest. He served from 1996-2012 when he retired.

Charles Trump, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, R-Murgan, said that fanning was already a force in the capital when he reached the House of representatives 31 years ago.

“He was kind to my memory,” Trump said during the floor’s comment on Monday. “He was a kind person, he had a lot of humor, he was ready to take time with someone even with young, ignorant representatives.”

Sen Mike Olivario, R-Monongalia, who served with fanning during the previous term of Olivario in the Senate, said the longevity of fanning in the Senate was amazing. He said that in McDowell, it was important to lead a bank board at home back home.

“John Pat knew which people in that county would soon pay their hostage than to eat,” said Olivario. “He had that kind of commitment. If they shook their hands and take a loan, they would pay that loan. He knew who those people were and they fought for them and they fought for them here. ,

Sen Bob Plumle, D-Vene, who served with Sen Donna Bole, with a long-term fanning in the Senate, stated that fanning was in love with the Year community in McDowell County.

“It was always a Year cub,” said Plimate.

According to Plimate, fanning was a true gentleman.

“One person I am really serving and one that everyone will remember here was a true servant of people,” he said.

Fanning conducted three funeral houses in McDowvel County.

His family members were in hand for Monday’s resolution.
