Our Lady of Lourdes School in Raleigh celebrates breaking 60-year drought in boys and girls team championships

Students athletes at our Lady of Lurden Elementary School in Rale have broken a long record of reducing their championship dreams.

Now, finally, they celebrate the end of that long drought with new trophies to show it for it. This is a dream true for his dear coach, Lance Anthony.

Athletes of our Lady of Lurdase have won the conference trophy but never have a championship. Its been a long time. His 60 -year drought went back in 1962.

For the past several years, coach Lance Anthony took his team in the final four or in the final of “The Shemrock” hosted in Charlotte. Before that, like all the coaches, they came to bring a championship to bring home.

Anthony explained that victory was not everything.

“We served and we went out every day and it was 30 years of enthusiasm and fun and we are a family and tight knit group.”

Last May, Anthony was honored with one of the highest honors in the state in the “The Order of the Long Leaf Pine”. The deputy deputy of retired Wake County Sheriff dedicated their more time to boys and girls teams.

Lance Anthony ordered Lance Anthony ordered Lance Anthony ordered the “The Order of the Long Leaf Pine” plaque.

His own sons grew up in that sports culture. “We still talk about it. The first thing we talk about is how Lurex Boys are going to do this year? ,

After waiting for decades, it was the year when the school dreamed for a long time. John Serakira of the school recalled the story of her long -standing victory.

“So far, in our conference, any school has won both boys and girls tournaments in the same year in the history of the Shemark tournament!” Cerquira said.

Victory or defeat, it was the year in which Anthony planned to retire. Now, he is going out with the championship. He said, “And it is like that we try to teach them here what you do. Work hard, and hard work will pay in the end and pay things and championships like today. ,

Anthony’s wife survives a cancer and retirement. They plan to spend more time to rest at home on their beach in Wilmington.
