Across the Los Angeles region, Christians are observing the onset of Ash on Wednesday.
Ash marks the official beginning of the 40-day season of “Fat/Shrov Tuesday” or Mardi Grass in some cultures: deep prayer, remorse and sacrifice time in Christianity, which leads to Easter. Many Catholic, G.sel, Lutans, and other Christian sects traditionally observe the day with fasting, tithing and abstinence with meat or other luxury.
As a part of Ash Wednesday, Christians receive symbolic ash on their forehead in the shape of a cross. The Act means a sign of penance. In the Roman Catholic Church, individuals are told by ministers, because black ash applies to their foreheads, “Turn from sin and live the gospel.”
