IHSA Personal State Tournament: At the State Farm Center in Champaign, Andy Barbariza of Crystal Lake South has a win from a state championship and a undefeated season.
Barbariza won his class 2A 285-pound semi-final on Friday with a 1-0 win over Lamont’s Alex Passquel. Gaters Senior will wrestle Jackson Baranhart of Champaign Sentennial for the state title on Saturday evening.
Barbariza is one of the six McHanery county region wrestlers who will compete for the state title on Saturday.
Marion will have three wrestlers for the championship. Briden Tunisen (120 pounds) defeated Clinton Wereke of Unity Christian by Tech Fall in the semi -finals to set up a title match against Tyson Vejal of Carlile.
At the age of 132, Vance Williams took a big decision 8–0 in his semi-finals and will face Jude Finch of Rocridge on Saturday.
Jimmy Mastni (157) won a pin with three seconds in his semi -final win. Mastni Title takes Bryson of Oakwood to Capanski in the bout.
Eric Bush of Johnsburg defeated Marion’s Austin Hedgewold in the 1A106 semi -finals and faced Max Philpot in Wandallia in the title round. Marion’s Anthony Alanis (113) and Max Estassio (165) also lost the semi -finals on Friday.
Keden Parks of Crystal Lake Central will also get their title shot after deciding 2–1 in their class 2A 190-pound semi-finals. Park will meet Andrew Markes in Rock Island in the title match.
Girls bowling
IHSA State Tournament: In Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Richmond-Button Senior Jeena Scocowski is fourth behind the leader after the first day of the two-day tournament and 95 PINs.
Scichowski rolled a six-game series of 1,291 PINs with a high game of 236. The Ella Stink of Joliat West ranks first in 1,386, followed by Ariana Arujo (1,328) of Stag and Mia Antoma (1,316) of Jolit West.
Scichowski, who was the only local bowler to qualify, won both regional and sectional individual titles to create his second appearance in the state. She finished 14th as a Sophomore.
Boys Basketball
Huntley 53, McHenry 47: In McHeenry, Red Reders (20–10, 13–5) wrapped the second place in the Varries (23–8, 12-6) in the Fox Valley conference.
Huntley on Friday tied the second place in FVC with McHeenry and Burlington Central.
Omare Segara led the reders with 13 points and five rebels. Christian Wilson followed closely with 12 points, and Ryan Sweeny scored nine runs.
Adam Anwar scored a game-high 16 points for McHanery. Dialyn Harks added nine points.
Carrie-Grove 57, Burlington Central 50: In Carrie, Trojan (15–16, 10–8) assigned an FVC loss to the rocket (20–10, 12–6), which excluded them from the part of the second place.
Ryan Albert scored 17 points to lead Trojan and Adam Bauur added 13. Jake Hornok and AJ Bernad scored 10 runs for each CG.
Jake Johnson scored 18 points and killed four 3s to lead the rockets.
Dundi-Crown 55, Preary Ridge 44: In Carpenterville, Chargers (12–16, 7–11) took down wolves (5–21, 2–16) in their FVC matchup.
Johnsburg 53, Plano 44: In Johnsburg, Skyhox (17–14, 13–1) wrapped the season of its Kishwoki River Conference with victory at Reipers (16–15, 9–7).
Johnsburg won the title with a win against Harvard on Wednesday. Ben Person led Skyvox with 16 points and Jayas Schmidt hit three 3s and scored 11 runs.
