NASA seeks volunteers for yearlong Mars simulator mission – NECN

NASA is searching for four people to spend a year living in a fake version of Mars, the administration announced on Tuesday.

The mission is set to kickoff on Spring 2025, aimed at shaping the agency’s plans for human exploration of the red planet and the mission will be the second part of Chapia, Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analyogue.

Four persons volunteer crew 1,700-class-foot at Houston’s Johnson Space Center live inside and will work.

Habitate, called Mars Tibba Alpha, simulates similar challenges that a mission will exist on Mars, including resource boundaries, equipment failures, communication delays and separating environmental stresses.

The crew will be assigned with robotic operation, habitat maintenance, exercise, crop growth and simulated spacewalk.


Applicants should be American citizens or permanent residents between the ages of 30 and 55, should be skilled in English and a non-smoking. In addition to the basic requirements, NASA stated that applicants should have a master’s degree in a stem area with at least two -year professional experience and should conduct an aircraft one thousand hours.

The candidates who have either completed two years of work have worked towards the doctoral program in STEM have completed a medical degree, or have done a test pilot program.

Tuesday’s release said, “Applicants must have a strong desire for unique, rewarding adventure and interest in contributing to NASA’s work to prepare for the first human journey on Mars.”

The time limit for applying is April 2 and compensation is available to participate in the mission, but no additional details were given on salary.
