Man’s cross-country walk makes stop in Durham to spread awareness for walkable communities

Holden Ringer was at the Mori University in the spring of 2021 when he overtook the spirit of adventure.

“I was studying for a finance exam and I wanted to be anywhere, but there,” Ringer said. “I wanted to go for a walk, but I needed to stay for an exam. Therefore, as a form of laxity, I started a googly of what it would be to walk across America, read some people’s experiences and thought that it was a good idea so the seeds were planted in that moment. ,

Ringer later moved to Washington in 2021 and returned to Dallas to work for Americans, where his parents lived. On the flight there, he learned that his mother was Kovid, so he went around the city by 20 miles.

“During that walk, I realized that it was something I could do every day during the year,” Ringer said.

After starting in La Push, Washington, the ringer finds himself thousands of miles away in the triangle on Wednesday. It is difficult, even for a pre -cross country and track runner, but his nationwide trek, “Walk 2 Washington”, a challenge in endurance and a dive in a new perspective. He is also raising money for America walk.

Ringer is already traveling well. He was born in Dallas, born in Indianapolis, lived in South Africa for a while, went to high school in Massachusetts and college in Atlanta. He recently lived in Seattle, but he has no permanent address, he is unemployed and calls himself a “functionally homeless”. Their curiosity is a sign for American spirit and is an exploration to call cities to dedicate more resources to cities safe running trails.

The 26 -year -old communities are walking across the country in the hope of running the ability to run and to create awareness about alternative, sustainable transport methods. After starting on March 8, 2023, the walk is about to hit a one -year mark.

“Many people who are hitting cars and many people who die in pedestrian accidents are becoming homeless,” Ringer said. “This is just something that is more dear to my heart.”

He is performed through seven pairs of shoes and bears a jogging stroller with the inside supply. Although he has always been a big walker, cyclist and runner, he has never done much camping outside.

The US Highway 70 and parts of Hillsborough Road to reach Ringer Bull City are staying in Durham till Sunday. From there, he will be the head of the city of Oxford, then eventually Richmond, Virginia. Earlier in the week, he went through Greensboro, Elon and Burlington.

His last destination is New Heaven, Connecticut, where there is a monument for his grandparents. The goal is to reach there in May. He will also stop by New York City and Washington, DC. When his journey was still out of the west, he often spent the night in a tent where there was more public land. He said that he has an easy time to live with people because he has gone to the east.

Ringer met with a group named Bike Durham when he arrived and stay with some members of the group for some nights.

He moves with a mixture of main roads with some greenway and trails and makes it at a distance of about 30 miles each day. Ringer said the walk brings him a deep sense of appreciation for his blessings and he feels that he is fighting for those without reliable means of transport. Staying in Seattle helped him gain a new understanding of unheard.

“It is very big to have a perspective of walking places,” Ringer said. “So many people see the world through a car. They are going from their home to office or school. You are missing a lot in the middle. I think it is important to get out and to be in that perspective. ,
