LHP Jordan Wicks begins quest for rotation spot

Mesa, Ariz.-Chicago Cubs left-handed Jordan Vicks has attained an in-tradition look of his new manager.

Craig Counsel had a front-ru seat for the worst start of Wicks. Supported by six runs in the first innings in Milwauki, Vicks allowed three runs in the first and second innings and knocked out after 1 2/3 innings. Hard outing started six, in which he conceded 11 runs for 3.00 ERA.

Vicks and Consall have talked about the outing that led to the 24 -year -old insight on how the Brucers Game planned against him.

Vicks said on Friday, “Sports plans are going to be relatively equal, when other teams try to attack me, and therefore there is just a man who has done it towards me.”

The Wicks season is part of the competition to open the season as the fifth starter of the cub. Starting at Friday’s Cactus League opener, Wicks allowed a run on a homer in two innings. He opened a cub’s 8–1 victory against White Sox by killing Kevin Pillar on a curb. Christopher Morel’s two runs was part of the first innings of Six runs.

Counsell is not putting much stock in spring performance, of course it’s not hurry in the camp. He estimates cubs required by eight or nine pitches to make several starts for the cub this season, which emphasizes the value of depth and contribution to beyond beyond, which is part of the opening-day roster.

“They are simply getting ready here and we have got them a chance to do so and cannot expect perfection from the first moment,” COUNSELL said.

“When you have that foundation for success for Jordan, it makes it, like, I can be good here that I do now. Perhaps the most important thing to start for Jordan is that my luggage plays here. ,

Next step in the maturity of Vicks: To find out where he gets stuck in the game if a pitch is not effective and how to compete. Counsell and cubs want Wicks to give himself more options. This may mean that when another pitch is not working, be able to rely on your off -minded goods.

A key for Vicks when he finds himself in those stuck moments, it is to take a deep breath and reset. It became a focal point of his offsen.

“When the game starts moving at a slight speed, when they start receiving the runners and this way, how do you reset? What are your mechanisms to go? Vicks said. “This is something that I am playing in spring training, try some things and just go from there.”

Wicks is expected to see that this spring ideally included your slider more as a more effective secondary option. His slider was corresponded to only 4% of his large league pitches and was largely ineffective by his slider. But he sees the slider as an imbalance towards the change of his aristocracy.

“This is that other seeds are able to be able to plant in the heads of people and another thing that they have to prepare is too big,” COUNSELL said. “The hitters in this league are very good, where you can have only one or two pitches, to remove them. You have many options to divert your attention. ,

Vicks was pleased with a slider, threw Dominic Fletcher on the second innings in the second innings, executed it completely 0–2. Then, in the next-bat against Rafael Ortega, Wicks threw a slider down in the middle to move forward and stay in the zone.

Vicks said, “I really couldn’t say that I did not meet what I wanted to do there, so I was really happy with them.”

Wicks do not need to strike a ton of hits to be effective. He recorded five out of five of his seven strikes or less for the cub last season. Vicks knows how to pitch, however, and his fastball-changingup combination is difficult to match for hits.
