Lawrence, Topeka conference to celebrate 70 years since Brown v. Board decision – The Lawrence Times

An upcoming conference in Lawrence and Topkeka “Brown V. Board of Education of Topka” will celebrate 70 years after the decision.

Brown v. The board set the foundation for school integration when in 1954 the United States Supreme Court ruled racial isolation in public schools, unconstitutional.

According to the KU news release, the University of Census is connecting with the Brown vs. Board of Education National Historical Park, located in Topka, which is to recognize history and discuss progress after 70 years.

Dean of Ku’s School of Education and Human Sciences, Rick Guinsburg, said, “We are proud to celebrate the brown verdict of the 70th anniversary’s Landmark US Supreme Court 1954 in association with their colleagues at the Brown V. Board of Education National Historical Park.” “The decision changed the curriculum of American history, and the implications and goals of the decision are important for today’s reference.”

The events that will be part of the two -day conference, “Brown V. Board 70: Back and Strawing Forward”, Lawrence includes panel discussion in the campus of KU and a tour in the Topke Museum.

The conference is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, 18 April and 19 April. There will be events in each day – on Thursday at Jaywalk Welcome Center, 1450 Jaywalk Block. In the premises of KU, and in the Union on Friday, 1565 Irving Hill Road in Lawrence, and Brown V. Board of Education National Historical Park, 1515 SE Monroe in Saintka.

The event is free to participate, but registration is required till 5 April. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to register as soon as possible using the online form available at this link.

Bus transport from Lawrence to Topka will be provided free of cost on Friday, April 19, which interested people can note on registration form.

After registration in all the conferences sessions of Friday in the waste union, it will be accessible online through Livestream.

This conference KU and Brown V. The Board of Education National Historical Park is sponsored by a division of National Park Service, with the support of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, KU Lawrence Campus Schools, KU Libraries and Hall Center.
