Lawrence School District on Friday declared Vammond Erwin as the next director of secondary schools – a central administrative office status which was first cut off from the budget.
According to the news release, Erwin is currently as a principal of Northeast High School at Canasus City, Missouri in its fifth year. He graduated from Houston University and his doctorate degree and Priori View A&M’s degree from the University.

“I am proud to join Lawrence Public Schools and be part of a community that ensures that all students have the best options and opportunities to be academic, socially and emotionally successful,” Erwin said in the release. “I am eager to serve the leaders of the most secondary school and strengthen them to continue with the projection to success.”
The Central District Administrative Station was one that was cut as a share of millions of dollars in staffing, which was approved to the school board in the spring of 2022. Administration cuts were $ 577,441 – about 9%of $ 6.41 million in total cuts.
The district has also restored the post of director of primary schools. Woodlon Elementary Principal Jesse Roberson is infection in that role.
“By listening to the needs and concerns of principals, employees and families; According to a news release from the district, a continuous review of student achievement and behavior data, it is clear that the epidemic has negatively influenced the student socio-emotional and behavior development. “The board and administration understand the need to provide additional assistance to meet the students’ needs and maintain a favorable environment for learning.”
Additional budget cuts in 2023 eventually motivated two primary schools to close and reduce 50 teaching staff posts. The Forestors Planning Committee of the district recommended to cut a district administrative post, which would save an estimate of about $ 128,000. The committee members voted 69% to 31% in favor of that recommendation; However, Superintendent Anthony Lewis told the members of the school board that he would not recommend that cut.
“I think this board hired me to run a skilled school district, but first and foremost, to be responsible for our resources and our facilities,” he told the board at that time.
According to the release of the district earlier this week, “Following the current budget on the financial priorities of the board and a comprehensive look at the reflection, the district will restore both positions to support the building principals in its role as directed leaders, according to the release of the district earlier this week.” “In addition to 10 casual teaching positions in the decline to reduce classes of classes, the district is planning to create head teacher posts based on the preference requirements of the students of the district primary and middle school. The Dean of Students Positions will support employees in effective instructions, intervention, restructural practices and frequent implementation of student and family support and serve as professional learning opportunities for teachers interested in becoming administrators. ,
Erwin’s position is effective from 1 July, the pending school board approval.
