Los Angeles – Los Angeles City Council approved the allocation of $ 1 million on Tuesday to support a project in Hollywood to fund several public bathrooms and a visitor information center.
Council members voted 13–0 in support of a proposal offered by counselor Hugo Soto-Martinez, which represents the 13th district, including the Hollywood sectors. There was no discussion before the vote.
Council members Bob Blumnfield and Monica were absent during Rodriguez votes.
In 2018, the city council provided the use of more than $ 4 million in CRA/LA Tax Bond Income in the district from the Hollywood Redevelopment Project area towards the Hollywood Walk of Fame Improvements Project.
The Board of Public Works and Bureau of Engineering Project is working on the implementation phase, which has a total budget of $ 4,630,012.
Soto-Martinez cited the need for facilities like bathrooms that could better support tourism and Hollywood’s economic development.
Last year, the counselor, transport department as well as members of the Hollywood Partnership Community Trust announced a plan to manufacture and operate a non-profit, a visitor center and public toilet, associated with the Hollywood Partnership Business Improvement District.
To support the plans, Soto-Martinez sought a $ 1 million recurrence from the budget of the Walk of Fame Project. It will be developed on a property in 1627 wine st, which is currently owned by the city and operated by the dot.
Dot first reported success in achieving a tenant for space. The counselor had said that space can be replaced to improve the needs of tourists and residents with Hollywood Bulleward.
According to the 2021 Public Toilet Index, La requires more bathrooms, which found that the city – with a population of about 4 million people – is about 189 public toilets, or about five toilets per 100,000 inhabitants per 100,000 residents.
