Given Mazia Shelton for the first time, Jolit West Senior cannot look like a major force on a basketball court.
Once the game begins, however, she usually takes it.
Although he stands only 5 -Foot -7, the power of Shelton West is ahead, and has been for the last four years. He has seen a lot in his career, playing two seasons with two-time Herald-News Player of the Year Lisa Thompson, currently playing for Rutgers. The team had to accommodate Thompson’s absence after Shelton was transferred to the academy in the junior season, and this year, the tigers adjusted the first year coach Breckmon.
“Basketball is like therapy. From my new year to senior year, I am nothing but grateful. If I had to say two words, they would be ‘blessed’ and ‘grateful’.” ,
– Mazia Shelton, Jolit West Senior Girls Basketball Player
Shelton had a high point on Tuesday in her career when she made her 1,000th career point in a win on Bloom. On Thursday night, he and the tigers took Lincoln-Way East and 6-6 Heaven Smith. Despite giving almost one leg in height, Shelton ended with five points and six rebels. This was not quite enough, however, West left the decision of 50–43 to finish its season with a record of 16–13.
“There are definitely a lot of ups and downs,” Shelton said about her four years in the West program. “Although there were more ups than down, though.”
In court, Shelton symbolizes a team player, which his team needs to do to do it. It is not uncommon to see Shelton defending a shot, hold the rebound, bring the ball to the floor and make your way through the lane for a basket. He is not allowed a break on defense, either, because he is usually assigned to protect one of the best players of another team.
She accepted in a personal enjoyment, however.
“When I started a high school, I went down from the hall and saw the pictures of the people there,” she said. “I knew that one day, I wanted to be on the wall.
“To be able to achieve this, to get 1,000 marks – especially after remembering half a season [sprained LCL] In my Sophomore year – looks very special. ,
Shelton is a special player for her coach, Brey Blackmon.
“Mazia is a coach’s dream,” Blackmon said. “When I got this job, I prayed that God would leave me some generals. He certainly did with Mazia. He is a template for a tiger who should be a tiger.
“He is not the tallest player out of there, but he dominates four-spots. Other teams know every game that they have to stop him, but very often, they can’t. They are just proud of him. She really understands how to play four situations.”
Shelton said that West Coaching Staff plays an important role in her career.
“After my injury, the coaching staff inspired me to be better,” she said. “I wanted to come back and wanted to be a better player, and I couldn’t do that without coaches with me.”
Although her season and high school career ended before ending, Shelton would have nothing but memories.
“I had some difficult times,” he said. “But my team partners make it easy to get through them. Basketball is like therapy. From my new year to senior year, I am nothing but grateful. If I had to say two words, they would be ‘blessed’ and ‘grateful’.”
