Huntley loses heartbreaker to Guilford in Class 4A regional title game – Shaw Local

Rockford – Huntley on Thursday tried tirelessly to cross Guilford, took his second lead with only 29.9 seconds and scored on a Nifty trick and junior guard Anna Campnelli.

On defense, the Redders played strict throughout the time and refused to take a shot several times in the concluding moments of the game. Last time, the reders forced the watch to violate five-second inbounds with 1.4 seconds.

Then things became interesting.

Huntley Freshman Lana Hobde received the upcoming inbound pass and was left 0.2 seconds, at the point at which another reders player ran from the bench and in court to celebrate.

After the discussion, the referee called a technical dishonesty against Huntley. Hobde recalled two of his free throw, when he was initially fouled, Vikings Senior Dania Gary made two technical foul shots to top the Vikings.

The last pass of the reders was stolen, and Gilford defeated Huntley 33–32 to capture the class 4A Gillford regional title. Guilford also defeated Huntley in last year’s regional finals.

Huntley Coach Steve Raithz, who led the Reders to 11 regional titles and about 450 wins, stated that Thursday’s chaotic end was the first for him.

,[She] Perhaps eight, 10 feet ran away on the floor. I have not seen such a call in my 26 years, “Rayathz said.” There are many things in that game that did not go in our way. Missed shots, turnover, but through this I felt that we showed a lot of resolutions and fought to bring us into a position to win the game.

“I am very proud of my players and how they need a stop, this is an unfortunate way to finish the game.”

Guilford coach Michael Jamerson said that it was an easy option to send Gary into line after shooting 85% from the free-thro line during the regular season.

Gary, who had a team-high points and made 6 out of 7 free throw, was well prepared for this time.

“Crazy,” Gary said. “We literally practice these moments, and when it came I knew that I was ready, even though I was nervous. I knew that I could do this because we practice these moments every day. … We just had to create, and we did it.”

Jamerson was proud of his team for never giving up.

“Energy was more, and Huntley had a speed,” Jymsarani said. “When she ran on the floor, I think she felt that the clock ran out. When [technical foul] Come, I knew that I had a big chance to take the lead by putting Dania Gary in line. He is a clutch, a four -year Versity child.

“I have a lot of respect [Raethz] And what he does and what he teaches. This is one [heck] Of a program. ,

Campanelli led the reders with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assistance. Junior Forward Paula Strajaleki added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Junior Ava McFide threw in four points and assisted three.

Huntley first led the game at 3 from Freshman Elisa Borzek with 30 seconds in the third quarter. Huntley held Guilford for only three points in the third.

Campanelli felt that the raids grew close throughout the season.

Campanelli said, “This year we had many new girls.” “They have done a lot, and would be fun to return that experience next year. We knew we have to stay, and I think we have done a good job. It is just an unfortunate end, but we did what we had to do.”

Reders graduated five seniors, including Cassidi Snake, Yasmin Morsi, Mia Garlin, Elizabeth Johnson and Kylie Lucas. Huntley won his third consecutive Fox Valley Conference Championship, which was going 17–1. Reders had a 37-game FVC winning line.

“I think they will definitely be able to win another conference and even regional,” the snake said. “If they put their minds, they have found it. I believe in them. I will definitely remember friendship. Being out of there with 10 new players, we took them as our brothers and sisters. We did everything inside and outside the school.”
