(WSVN) – A South Florida teenager is fighting a painful injury, but now a new battle on his hands. There are 7 investigations tonight in Robin Semans of 7.
Camili Harrison, mother of Frederick Clampson: “We have told you all about their situation. Maam, he has been traveling 42 miles for the last two months, okay?”
A mother is fed up with a Miami-dad county transport service, when things were sour when her paralyzed son needed a ride.
Chemiley Harrison: “It was built up to a point where I preferred, ‘Okay, I’m doing,’ because I am disappointed.”
Chemily Harrison is doing all that she can do to withdraw her son Frederick, which was once. Back in September, a helmet-to-halmet was hit in a homestand Senior High School Football Game, which seriously injured him.
Frederick now needs wheelchairs. He depends on the special transport service of the Miami-Dade County, or STS, so that it can be for its weekly physical therapy appointments.
The service funded by tax dollar allows county residents to ride people with disabilities for $ 3.
Chemiley Harrison: “This is a service that takes my son back and forth for his doctor’s appointments or needs to go anywhere, if he needs to work or run anything.
The ride ride is more than 40 miles from Frederick’s Florida city house.
Due to their spine injury, they have to rebuild their chair throughout the day to flow their blood, which means they have to ride in front of the van to keep enough space.
Chemiley Harrison: “Dispatcher told us that if we want those types of accommodation for them, we have to tell them ahead of time.”
The family says that he called the county ahead of time. But on 6 February, things became hot when a driver put Frederick in the back.
Chemiley Harrison: “I said, ‘No, no, he does not go behind. I had built special housing for her in her notes.’ He called the dispatch, and then he told me, ‘Oh, they are going to send someone else.’ I said, ‘No, if they send someone else, they will not make it on time for their appointment.’
The chemilli was recorded as his son was dropped from the van.
Chemiley Harrison: “” Get down, get off, mam. ” I said, ‘No, I am not going anywhere.’
Frederick missed his appointment that day, and for the next three days, the van did not come to pick her up.
The Miami-Dade Transit website says it is responsible for “solving the concerns of the riders”.
But after several calls in County, Camily says nothing has been done.
Chemily Harrison: “They need to back down their workers. They need to teach them compassion.”
Frederick is now using a new transport service paid through its insurance. But Camily hopes that County addresses problems like these because transport service is important for so many people.
Chemiley Harrison: “My son, he was so, ‘How am I going to treat?” For example, he already had a painful injury. ,
There is a long road ahead of Frederick. They certainly did not require this transport problem.
Robin Semans, 7news.
County told 7 investigations that it does not have a record of Frederick’s family who is reaching about his residence before the incident. They are reviewing what has happened and says they will try to accommodate all the appropriate requests from the riders.
County issued the following statement to 7news:
We are aware of the incident associated with Frederick Clampson and his mother on 6 February 2024 after requesting STS transport services. We take all reports of service-related issues seriously and are committed to all passengers with special requirements to ensure the safety and access of our transport services.
On reviewing the incident, it has been determined that Frederick’s mother, Primary Care Attendant (PCA) contacted the DTPW Paratrance Call Center on the day of the incident. When the STS vehicle arrived at her house, Frederick’s mother expressed concern about the seating arrangement for Frederick. According to him, they require unique transport housing due to their position. Our employees provided guidance about the procedure to request proper housing and asked him to contact the DTPW ADA officer for further assistance.
Unfortunately, during this conversation, there was some misconception, and the situation increased, causing delay in service to other STS customers. We understand that passengers may sometimes require housing beyond our standard process, and when we try to accommodate all the appropriate requests, there are examples where requests fall out which are permissible and inadvertently affect our riders.
We encourage travelers who require special accommodation to get acquainted with County’s STS guidelines and policies and allow us to better help, to constantly communicate their needs in our call center. Additionally, DTPW is committed to working closely with our service contractor to provide the highest level of service and customer experience.
We understand disappointment that Frederick Clampson and his mother have experienced and we regret any inconvenience. We are dedicated to all residents of Miami-Dad County to provide safe, reliable and inclusive transport services. We will ensure that our team carefully review this incident to identify any field for reform and to prevent similar situations in the future.
