Freddy Hassan lifts Kaneland past Sycamore

Freddy Hassan of Caneland had a late start in basketball, but is making for lost time.

The eldest of the two sons of Nigerian migrants coming to the United States in 2006, Hasan got the taste of the game in the seventh grade, but did not even be serious to see it again as a new person.

“My parents really knew nothing about the game,” Hasan said. “I was very long than 6–1 or 6–2 in seventh grade, but spent most of the season in B team and eighth grade.

“Kovid happened and we had not really a season. I was not sure whether I like it or not. I didn’t even start my new year for B team.”

He likes it now. And the 6 -Foot -6 is also visible at home in Junior Forward Court.

Hasan doubled with 10 points and 10 rebounds on Friday night, which played an important role in the 82-56 win in Cyamore, which shut down the title of each other directly eight conferences.

Senior Forward Parker Violet led the route with eight rebels for 22 points and knights (23–5, 8-2), who finished a game from Lasel-Peru (22–8, 7-3) in Standing.

Senior Guard Trayer Carlson, who became the leading scorer of the program last week, added 19 points. Sophomore forward Ivan Freders and Senior Guard Brad Frank had eight in each.

Hasan, who also contributed two blocked shots and two aids, can now smile as he looks at his early experiences in basketball.

“I was barely out of the bench freshman year, but I once put some crazy data like 20 rebounds,” he said. “But I was playing 6-4 against young children.”

Hassan and his brother Jeffrey, a 6-8 freshman who practice with Versity and play in the Sofomore team, spent most of their time in their Montgomery neighborhood grade school skateboarding.

“I think it really helps us with cruelty, just falling all the time and coming back,” said Freddy. “I learned some tricks, but I don’t even know if they can still do.

“I have not skated a short time.”

Carlson remembers Hasan’s early tests and tribulations.

Carlson said, “He came for Versity after he jumped heavily in summer.”

Hasan started on Versity as a sophistication. He notices that he arrived on a Christmas break when he was named MVP of Plano Christmas Classic, which was taken by the knights with four wins.

“Honestly, I can’t believe it,” Hasan said. “I felt that it was a dream at first. He announced it.

Hasan scored an impressive run in the tournament, with an average of 16.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots in four matches.

“He is one of our best players, and sometimes, he is just invincible,” said Carlson. “When he is leaving, he pressures me. Freddy and Parker Down are very invincible.

“Freddy can block the shots. He is strong in the post, and he can pull out and kill a jumper. He just keeps getting better, and he has played only three years. What it does in the future will be exciting.”

A journey from the day in the hallway at the beginning of his new year when Kanland’s assistant coach Andre Career approached him and asked if he plays basketball.

“He was the first person who spoke to me,” Hasan said. “He always sizes about that.”

Hasan’s parents are divorced. He and his brother live with their mother, Hilda.

“The second day, she was telling me that she knew that I was behind,” said Freddy. “She apologized for not getting me first, but she is helping me a lot with everything.

“This is always for me and my brother. She never thinks about herself. So I am always working so hard. I am expecting to go to college for free someday so that she does not need to worry about it.”

Kanland coach Erni Columbe said it is part of the scheme.

“We are gearing up for this,” Columbe said. “This Offsin, we will keep working on his ball and shooting. We want him to play a little more circumference in the next season.”

Hasan said that he has started loving the game.

“Playing defense, scoring, helping my team win,” he said. “I just love that if you work hard, you get better. What you give to basketball will give you back. If you work, you will be better.”
