MESA, Ariz.-The third base seems to be the best way to get in the Christopher Morel for a long time to get in the Chicago cub lineup, at least in a non-coated hitter capacity.
Morel is now getting an opportunity to stay in a position. Manager Craig Counsel said on Saturday that the Morel will focus on the third basis primarily at the beginning of the camp.
“Let’s evaluate that we go, but let’s give him a chance on a third basis, let’s give him some stability on the third basis,” COUNSELL said. “See where we are on roster wise at some point in the camp and then proceed from there.
“I am really excited about the aggressive ability and know that it is still a young player and this is the job. It’s the work that we want to keep in and see where we get that work.”
The cub rely on a platoon mixture in the previous season, with middleing production. The group finished 17th in Team Bawar – Nick Madrigal, Patrick Wisdom, Jamer Candelario and Miles Mastrobuni recorded at least 72 plates. The Morel provides a much more aggressive reverse and has a regular danger to damage.
Morel has placed 20 Big-League in third place, including four in the previous season, when it was limited to just 39 1/3 innings in the situation.
“Christopher has done so much with the bat that our best way to deploy it is our job to find out,” COUNSELL said. “He can play a lot of positions to say. Yes. We have to play at a certain level that it makes sense to live there for the bat. And it is difficult to play many positions, there is no question about it.”
This represents a change in the vision of the cub, how they predict the use of the Morel coming in the spring.
Cubs named Hoter Christopher Morel celebrated on August 16, 2023 after running a three -run house in the ninth innings against White Sox in the Wrigley Field.
During the GM meetings in early November, the chairman of the baseball operation Z Hayer said that Morel would get work on the first basis in Winter Ball to increase his versatility. The topic came again during the winter meetings in early December when Hair said that the Morel was working as a pregem for the first time with his winter team Aguilas in the Dominican Republic, where the organization had sent coaches for instructions on some hands. At that time, COUNSELL said that Morel needs to stay in the cub lineup, but it was uncertain if he would know the position of Morel from spring.
“Now where we have to find out that we have to sit here on 3 December and say that we have come to know or it can be a versatile piece, such as, yes, Muki Bates was a versatile piece for a very good team,” the counsel said two months ago.
Then, at the cub conference last month, the Morel discussion with COONSELL and General Manager Carter Hawkins focused to embrace its defensive versatility and work in several positions instead of an expanded shot in third place in spring training.
Only 24 as he enters his third large-league season, Morel made sense to enhance other areas of his roster as a potential offsen trade chip for the cub, which could allow Morel to return to his more natural status, second basis, where he is blocked by Gold Glove Nico Horner.
“The players are asked, they are good players, so there is nothing wrong in this,” COUNSELL said.

Cubes’ second Basman Christopher Morel, Right, is unable to play a bare color on a hit on a hit by Paul Goldsmidt, the first Basman of the cardinals at Wrigley Field on July 21, 2023.
Patrick Wisdom is expected to take more representatives on the first basis in this spring as they ask him to try some new things because he competes in the camp. Despite the aggressive fan knowledge, to fall to stretch, they also have the power that can change the game with a swing. It offers the value to the Counsel, who said “you find spots for those people.”
If Morel shows that they can be trusted to handle regular regular plays regularly during the camp and to be their regular third base, it makes an opportunity to get another quality hitter to use in DH spots through free agency or a business.
There are short and long -term organizational payment. It begins with the work. Puts Morel and proves that he can handle the third.
“I see it as a young player, who had a very aggressive success at an early age,” COUNSELL said. “We have found this in the situation to find out – we don’t have to decide today – but hopefully we are asking him to do defensively, because there is a lot of crime because just a lot of crime to ignore it, you know? Obviously finding a defensive situation, or a defensive position will help him to find a role, but clearly require some time to dig for some time.”
