Charleston Police officers approve of city’s newly-appointed Chief of Police, Scott Dempsey

Charlston, w.va.-20 over the year of Charleston Police Department veteran, Scott Dempsy on Friday, as the new chief of the police, his fellow officials say he is the right man for the job.

Eighteen -year -old veteran, Jason Web, along with Charleston Police, was also appointed by Dempsi to serve as Deputy Chief of Police on Friday. The web said that Dempi served any role with dignity and integrity.

He said that it is very respectable that whoever gives importance to the qualities like Dempi will also see those qualities sufficiently in itself, which is enough to promote them in such a situation.

“That’s why I am happy that he is the chief who chose me for this situation, because he is still so much hand, he is intelligent, he has done this work for a long time, and he really knows what the city of Charlston needs, and we don’t know if we would have gone to a different route,” Web said.

Dampi has worked in Charlston Police Department for 23 years and has made several successful career infections and advances. His most recent role has been an interim police chief with the department, which he has retained since August 2023.

However, earlier, Dempsi served in the current role of the web as Deputy Chief of Police from 2020 to 2023, as well as Warrant Division Commander, Housing Lion Officer, and Information Services Commander.

The web said that Dempi is always fair.

“Is he found to discipline someone, whether it is your friend, whether you are modest in the past, he is going to treat you the same every time,” the web said.


In addition to other previous roles, Dempsi also served as the Chief Fire -scripture, Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division, as well as with various temporary assignments during a two -decade long career.

Lieutenant Mark Kinder, who has been serving in the department for nearly 19 years, said that after working with Dempsy for those years in various capabilities with Dempsy, such as the Criminal Investigation Division, he knows them well and agree that there is no better for the job.

“My whole career has been here and I have worked with him every day, I have gone here, he is just a great leader, a great leader, a great man,” Kinder said.

As police chief, Dempsi is responsible for the entire force and all its operations and assignments, as well as coordination with other departments and external agencies.

Kinder said that this is not an easy task, in which the phone is 24/7 and a long time away from the family. However, he stated that Dempsi has the right character and performance to handle it.

“Scott has a great head on his shoulders and he is going to be a person who can equal it, be able to become a family person and can do him what he has to lead him to lead him to the department, and then, you cannot choose a better leader than the main Dempsy,” Kinder said.

Dampi has served in all various positions as well as all various positions in the Charlston Police Department, he is also a certified law enforcement instructor for the West Virginia state, and is certified in murder investigation, property and fraud investigation, leadership technology and community service.

He has been recognized by federal law enforcement agencies for his work with CPD and his investigative work with state and federal prosecutor offices.

Dampi also serves as the current vice -president of the West Virginia Chief Police Association.

He is a graduate from the University of West Virginia and has a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in criminal justice.

Dempsi was officially sworn in by Mayor Amy Shuller Goodwin during a ceremony on Friday as a police chief.
