MorGantown, W.VA. – A competitive bidding process has led a new host site for the WVSSAC Football Championship.
The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission Football Championship will go to Charlston Stadium University for at least the next three years. 2027 is a mutual option for title games. The WVSSAC Board of Directors on Thursday gave a final approval to the city of Charleston.

“We are excited by the proposal to host the Football Championship in the Lidley Field by the Charleston community,” said WVSSAC Executive Director David Price. “Local organizing group is committed to the financial success of the group student and fan as well as fan.”
The bidding phase to host 2024, 2025 and 2026 Games was the most competitive in terms of the number of proposals submitted to WVSSAC. Representatives of Michelle Stadium of Bluefield, Representatives of the Vheel Island Stadium and Zone C in Huntington. A joint bid from the Milan Puskar Stadium in Edwards Stadium and Morgentown submitted proposals for hosting competitions.
“We were very lucky for four proposals from various parts of the state (Bluefield/Charluston, Huntington/Morgentown and Wheeling), each of which was very interested in hosting the football championship,” Price said. “Each proposal had strong qualifications and each received a complete idea.”

Prior to January 12, WVSAC was formally presented bids and visited the site in the next weeks. WVSSAC required a minimum seating capacity of 10,000 to host. The UC Stadium is home to Charleston University and Capital High School Football Teams. Laidley Field also hosts the WVSSAC track and field championship.
Wheeling had hosted the Championship Games since 1994. The Ladley Field Games in Charleston were the previous hosts. The 2024 championship will be marked for the first time that the 4-class system will be in place. The game will be played on December 6 and 7 with the afternoon and 7 pm.
“We have four full -sized locker room and a locker room for referee. Brady said that there are some locker room renovation that will be completed before December and some press box renovations that are running which will be completed by November.
