Batavia turns away scare from Wheaton Warrenville South, takes regional title – Shaw Local

Carlson said Bulldog changed 180 degrees to the second half, especially in the fourth quarter when he did not allow the tigers to score a single point in 12 direct assets.

“After the first quarter, we knew that we could not do this,” Carlson said. “We had to lift it. In Haftime, it really flipped a switch for us because we really realize that this could be our last game and we don’t want us to be so and we wanted to play at home once. We needed to focus and lock inside. ,

Top seed Bulldog (27–5) extended his winning streak to 11 games by defeating Tigers (17–16) this season by double points this season. Batavia hosted St. Charles East in the Batavia sectional semi -finals on Tuesday.

Eighth seed tigers crushed the ninth seed Glenbird East in the regional semi -finals, which took the growth in the game of 16 February. Tigers led 24-20 after shooting 6-for-12 on 3-pointers. The game was tied 35–35 after a 3-pointer by Edi Cagrron in the third quarter.


Bulldog fell at the defensive end, ignited 20–1 runs in the next nine minutes.

Wheaton Warrenville South Senior Hannah Struo closed his basketball career with a vast game, finishing with 14 points. Kagron canned three 3-pointers for nine points.

“Many people did not believe us to have eighth seed, especially after losing twice to Batavia, but we worked so hard to prepare for this moment and we became so strong.”

Bulldogs trouted the tigers in their two regular season meetings, winning both games with double figures, including the 12-point win 3 February.

The tigers adopted the philosophy of playing with a clean slate in their third performance. From the initial tip, the tigers were aggressive, physically played, diving on the floor for loose balls and closed the boards.

“I think the last few practices and last week they have closed and have narrow eyes,” Gassmith said. “It came down to pure faith. Batavia has been a name in this season which has been challenging. We fought the fight and followed our game plan for a tea, but in the end, we just ran out of the gas. At the end of the day, I am very proud of my season. I think our girls fought the Batavia. I am so proud of them. ,

Bulldog was shocked in the first quarter, several airballs were shot, an unexpected turnover for a war-testing and experienced team and were not returning to defense. “I was not surprised because we had it,” Stubing said. “We have a lot of young players who are starting to be comfortable in court. We had nothing to lose and we are a new team in the playoffs. We had a lot of fire. ,

Batavia coach Kevin Jensen said that his halftime speech focuses on playing hard defense and gaining control over sports.
