Ann Lightfoot, former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, died overnight on Monday after a long illness. She was 95 years old.
Lori Lightfoot said in a statement, “Many of our family and my mother’s friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of N Lightfoot, who have prepared a model of hard work, perseverance and value of faith for us throughout their lives.” “She will miss deeply, but her legacy lives in each of us who loved her very much.
Described by her daughter as a fiercely firm and religious woman, Ann Lightfoot escaped from the south with her husband, Eliza, running away from racism and discovering better opportunities. The couple settled in a small, working class city of Massilan in Ohio, which were about 400 miles east of Chicago.
N Lightfoot acted as a nursing colleague and once worked as a member of the school board of Massylon. She and her husband had four children together, and raised their family in a low-income white neighborhood in different cities. Born in 1962, her youngest, a major American city’s mayor became the first openly gay black woman to serve.
In his 2019 inaugural speech, Lori Lightfoot credited his mother to establish the values of loyalty, integrity and hard work.
Lori Lightfood said, “She is my role model, my champion,” Lori Lightfood said. “A woman whose dreams and high hopes inspire me through life for me.”
Eliza Lightfoot died in 2009.
A member of the Democratic Party, Lori Lightfoot was the mayor of Chicago from 2019 to 2023, when he lost reunion from Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Presiding over Wednesday’s city council meeting, Johnson called Alderman to join a moment of silence for N Lightfoot as the council wrapped the comments for the Black History Month.
Johnson said that when he succeeded Lori Lightfoot, it marked the first transition of power from one chosen black mayor from one chosen black mayor in the history of Chicago.
“This is in that feeling, as we recognize the leadership of former mayor, Lori Lightfoot, we are still saddened by him because he lost his mother,” Johnson said.
In his statement, Lori Lightfoot said that he appreciated “wishes for sensation and message”.
Lori Lightfoot said, “Our mother was a devotee of faith,” and we believe that she has gone to her greater glory. ,
