Mooorefield, W.VA.- Allegheni Wood Products, a 50-year-old West Virginia, internationally known wigrant-known, closed their doors on Friday and ended hundreds of jobs organized by the residents of the state.
Metronws were waiting on the statement of a company on Friday night.
Allegheni met with the workers on Thursday night and Friday and told them about the decision to stop operations. The owners are trying to sell the company, but recently fell down with financing.
It was reported to be a previous decline that AWP had started a discussion with several potential investors to avoid closing the company’s operations.
Ellagheni Wood Products is located in the Hardy County, but there are many locations and various operations around the state including Revirton, Kingwood, Bruceton Mills, Princeton and Beckle. The company has a large chirghar in Petersburg and a fanfare facility in Murfield. The company’s employees are around 600 people.
Residents of Hardy County opposed a second foggy facility which Elegheni was demanding last year. The company withdrew its application for an air quality permit in May last May.
Metronws spoke with all three members of the Hardy County Commission on Friday evening. None of them was contacted by Allegheni on Friday.
According to reports, the State Economic Development Secretary Mich Carmail spoke with the company officials on Friday afternoon.
This is the second major economic setback in the state in recent weeks following significant positive announcements in 2023. Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. announced its decision to shut down its tin mill in Veeran in two months last week. The decision will leave 900 workers unemployed.
