Aaliyah Flores, St. Laurence battle in sectional

It is one of the weeks during the winter season, where Freshman Guard Alia Flores was not playing in a postsen game for St. Lawrence she would be watching.

On Tuesday and Thursday night in the schedule, floors were playing in sectional and watching their brother playing for a boys team in a regional region of a regional the Vikings on Wednesday and Friday.

“This is chaotic at home,” Alia said. “Many games are going on. A lot of practice.

“We support 100% each other.”

Floors needed support on Thursday night as St. Lawrence decided 42-29 for Hansdel South in Class 3A Saint Ignatius Sectional Championship Game in Chicago.

Points were not easy to come as the floors led seven with Vikings (22–12). Sarah Burjiki, Kathleen Martin and Claire Elisen connected with five points.

Amerie Flowers scored 16 points to pace Hinsdale South (25–10), which plays at 7 pm on Monday evening, which plays 43–40 winners on Butler, in a superstitional the hornets host against Marion Catholic (28–7).

St. Lawrence set a program record for a win this season and reached the sectional finals for the first time in the history of the program. Vikings entered Postsen as the fourth seed.

This made a fun for the floors in the first season, especially St. Lawrence knocked the top seeded Hyde Park 48-46 to reach the sectional final. He led Vikings 12 points in scoring.

“Energy on this team was really great,” the floors said. “It was very exciting. I always thought about this and dreamed about that I was small.

“And finally, after that moment, it is honestly great. I love it. I am waiting for my next three years. ,

A Sofomore Guard, a Sophomore, led the Vikings in the rebels this season, an average in seven. She was a freshman in the last winter on Versity and knew what the floors were doing.

“Earlier last year, I was very nervous,” said Burjiki. “I didn’t know if she was being nervous, so I tried to help her, but she was very set.

“She knew what to do and fit well with everyone.”

Last season, St. Lawrence ended 17–16. In Offsen, former Marist and St. Xavier Standout Star Claire Austin took over as head coach. There were many new things to navigate.

“We had a lot of major changes with a new coach and a new team,” said Burzki. “But we did a great job together. He was my favorite thing. We knew how to read each other well. ,

Austin is excited about the future. He also praised his superiors for his contribution.

“I learned a lot from him,” Austin said. “It was as if they took me under their wing.”

But performing floors and big plays at such a young age is another positive signal.

“They bring scoring, they bring rebounding, and just bring their overall attitude,” Austin said. “They do not act like an undercaselasman. They are not afraid to take big shots. They are not afraid to go and drive against 6 -foot -4 girls.

“And they always want to score on their own.”

Floors, who tasted the national competition playing AAU, said she loves sports.

“Playing basketball just makes me very happy,” he said. “I have always seen my brother who plays, and it has been our point for years. I like everything about it. “
