Santa Fe, NM (AP) – Prosecutors in New Mexico want more accountability for the death of a cinematographer in 2021, who was badly shot by actor Alek Baldwin during a rehearsal for the Western film “Rust”.
Before proceeding in the case of Baldwin, the Armar on the set will be tried on the charge of involuntary mangilators and evidence. Jury selection starts in Santa FE on Wednesday in Hannah Gutrez-read test.
Gutirez-Read has requested not to be guilty of allegations and ensures that she is not guilty of the death of Halina Hutchins directly. Baldwin has also requested not to be guilty in an involuntary murder in a separate case.
Prosecutors say they would present the evidence that the gutirez-read loaded a live round in the gun, in which Hutchins were inadvertently killed after bringing live ammunition on a set, where it was clearly prohibited. He said that Armar recalled several opportunities to ensure security on the film set.
Evidence and testimony are implications for Baldwin, who was pointing to a gun in Hutchins during the October 2021 rehearsal outside Santa Fay, when the gun went away, he died and injured director Joel Suja.
Here are some things to learn about the gutired-read trial:
Charge
The step daughter of Gutirez-Read, famous sharpshooter and weapon advisor Thala Reid was 25 at the time of Hutchins’ death. His second job was as an armor in a feature film “Rust”.
Gutirez-Read face is convicted of 18 months in jail and an involuntary mangilator if an fine of $ 5,000 is convicted. The allegations of evidence molestation stems from the allegations that he handed over a small bag of potential narcotics to another crew member after shooting to avoid detection by law enforcement.
His lawyers say that charge is an attempt to stain the character of the prosecutors. Defense lawyers said the bag was thrown away without testing the material.
More than 40 people have been listed as witnesses during the tests run through 6 March.
Ammunition
Authorities located six rounds of ammunition on the film set, including a box, a gun belt, and a bandoleer worn by Baldwin. Baldwin has said that he has assumed that the gun was only in the tours that could not be removed.
Special prosecutors say they would offer “adequate evidence” that the gutirez-reads unknowingly brought live rounds on the set. He also argued in the court filing that Hutchins died due to a series of careless acts by the gutirez-read, and said that he should focus on live rounds and had intervened long before shooting.
Gutirez-read lawyers say that he is wrongly sacrificed. They oppose the live round on the set from the albucker-based supplier of dummy rounds. He also pointed to a broad “atmosphere” of security failures, which were exposed during an investigation by the state workplace security inspectors that go beyond the gutirez-read.
Additionally, the gutirez-read has been accused of carrying a gun at a time in Santa Fa in violation of the state law. Their lawyers say that a false confession about the handling of live ammunition on the “Jung” set has used charge to try to pressurize gutryz-prisoners.
workplace safety
According to the state workplace security regulators, the guutierz-reed was responsible for the storage, maintenance and handling of firearms and ammunition for the artists’ training members.
Live rounds are usually different from a small hole in dummy brass cartridge, indicating that there is no explosive inside or to listen to a Bibi’s claater which is shaken inside the round. The bottom of the cartridge is another symptom of a missing or slow primer dummy round.
Company Rust Movie Productions fined the state $ 100,000 after a scary story of security failures in violation of the standard industry protocol. The report included the testimony that the production managers did not limit or no action to address the two missfire on the set before shooting Hutchins.
The prosecutors urged a judge to keep the conclusions of the regulators out of the test as they could be used to argue that the “corrosion” management was responsible for safety failures, not the gutirez-read.
In the case, the judge biased with Gutirez-Read last week. The report stated that the production company did not develop a process to ensure that the live round was kept away from the set and it failed to give the armor a complete time for inventory ammunition.
Baldwin
Baldwin, prominent actor and a co-producer on the “rust”, was charged on an involuntary mangilator charge in January.
Baldwin has said that he pulled the gun’s hammer back – but not trigger – and removed the weapon.
The allegation against Baldwin provides two alternative standard for prosecution, one is based on the careless use of firearms and the other is tied without caution or “periphery” without careless, which is also defined as “total disregard or apathy for the safety of others”. Legal experts say that the latter standard can wave the investigation beyond Baldwin’s dealing with the gun.
Prosecutors Kari Morissy and Jason Lewis initially rejected an involuntary men’s -allegation against Baldwin in April, stating that he was informed that the gun was revised before shooting and was a malfunction.
Another recent analysis of the gun used by Baldwin concluded that “the trigger was to be sufficiently drawn to the trigger to fully cocked or retracted hammer to release the evidence revolver’s release or released hammer.”
“Rust” used an operational revolver. Industry-wide guidance that applies to “war” states that “live ammunition is never used nor brought to any studio or stage.” It also states that “Treat all firearms as if they are loads.”
A test date for Baldwin has not been determined.
