Apprenticeship program improves skills of county youth leaders

Regarding Luis Garcia, two months later, his job was turned into a training in Illinois’ Early Youth Development Business Trainee program to work as a youth program coordinator at Community Works in Wukegan.

When Garcia launched his new job in November, he had no information about the leading trading program for a certificate as a professional, guiding people between the ages of 16 and 24 years, who along the road to their hopes for the future.

“This is really a good opportunity,” he said. “It is an opportunity to learn and develop skills to work with a team, and do better work for community tasks. This helps you set goals and expectations. ,

The Youth Development Practitioner gives a group of people working in organizations dedicated to help the youth of the Apprenticeship program field to help make good options towards their future.

Jennifer Serino, Executive Director of Lake County Workforce Development, has intended to be a far -reaching program, stating that the group of young development doctors is the first in the state.

With community functions, Serino stated that the participants come from Lake County’s Boys and Girls Club, Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) in Wukeon, Youthbild Lake County in North Chicago and Curts Cafe at Highland Park.


“They are from a network of youth service organizations in Lake County,” Serino said. “They (National) are nominated in the apprenticeship program. They are on a career path to ensure that the program has been aligned with the needs of the community. ,

The biggest number of hungry in the program is Lake County’s Boys and Girls Club. The CEO of the organization, German Castalonos, said that nine members of their employees became part of the effort when it started.

“This is part of the not-for-profit ecosystem that has the responsibility of developing the youth,” Castlanos said. “This will help them to know better how to work with the youth. This will help them to shock and understand the youth better. ,

Working with young people to help develop skills in media arts and information technology, Garcia said that the class of the apprenticeship program has already helped them add tools such as icebreaker which he uses with the youth under his direction.

“I would ask them to imagine a walk in the forest, and talk about what they see and with whom they want to live with.” Garcia. “This is really a relationship psychology. They are talking about their relationships, and what is important for them. ,

James Taylor was picked up in Antioch and came to YCC as a teenager, where he learned computer skills before going to Chicago and working in the industry. He later returned to teach others in YCC to teach him there. When the apprenticeship program was born, they adopted the situation.

“This is an opportunity to get a certificate as a young businessman,” said Taylor. “This is a way to help and help children in YCC.”

YCC Executive Director, Jennifer Yonon said that the apprenticeship program helps to build a community of professionals who will work together to learn from each other and add more value to their organization.

“This helps them to be enriched by this new experience,” he said. “They will build leadership skills to help people take care of people in the community. This will increase equity, relationships and social justice in our Wukegan community. ,

Community Works co-founder Yate Sve Ewing said the apprenticeship program is helping not-for-profit organizations to develop a level of professionals who will guide the youth looking for a career towards their goals. They will also get their designation.

“(Apprenticeship) program is helping us in the Not-for-Profit World, developing a level of professionalship,” EVING said. “They will go with the best way to do things.”
