West Bridgewater selectman accused of lying about residence won’t face criminal charges – NECN

According to a investigative report received by NBC 10 Boston, police in the West Bridgewater of Massachusetts say that a former elected officer in his city would not face criminal allegations.

This conclusion comes after our “Small Town Secrets” story in July, with a selected board chair living with his wife in a house 20 miles away in Brentry.

When we faced Anthony Kinhan about our findings, Seleman resigned from his position before our story was published.

It is necessary for the state law that the elected officers live in the towns where they serve.

In view of our investigation, taxpayers called the West Bridgewater Selection Board for a criminal investigation of voter fraud allegations with the stipend for their post in the West Bridgewater Selection Board.

According to the report, seven months later, the police in West Bridgewater have stopped their investigation without interviewing anyone involved in the dispute.

He did not answer the question where the former selectors lived in 2022, voted in the city elections, or performed their duties as an elected officer.

“I don’t think it’s a criminal case,” Lieutenant Timothy Nixon wrote in the report compiled. “Although the News Peace depicts Mr. Kinahan that he is coming from a address in Brentry, it does not effectively establish at that time.”

We shared the police report with NBC10 Boston Legal Analyst and Massachusetts School of Law Dean Michael Coin.

“I was disappointed,” said Coin. “I don’t think this is a complete investigation as we expect. You know, we are not asking who stole the painting from Isabella Steward Gardner Museum.”

The police investigation never told where Kinahan was really living. According to a property search conducted for investigation, there were many addresses that came back to “Anthony Kinhan”, while seeing that Seleman’s father has only one name and he lives in the city as well.

As we had earlier mentioned, Kinhan sold her West Bridgewater months before running for the election again in April 2022.

That year a candidate came to light during the stage.

“I am waiting for the right house for me, and when I get it, I will buy it,” Kinhan said in the meeting. “Meanwhile, I am still living in West Bridgewater. That is all.”

On the ballot and the nomination paperwork filed with the city, Kinhan listed his address on his cousin owned property.

We never saw the selector at that address, but we saw the homeowner and his family working and did yardwork.

NBC10 Boston visited the house on 12 July and asked if Kinhan lives in property.

“Yes,” he replied, declining to ask for a business card and answer other questions.

The undercover videos we had collected during several weeks in May and June appeared to tell a different story. We saw Kinhan having breakfast, took out the recycling, and left his wife to work.

Property records show that Kinhan’s wife bought a Brentry Home in July 2022, a few weeks ago the couple got married in Bermuda.

According to a copy of the marriage certificate we received, Kinhan listed his address in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood, raising more questions, how long the elected officer lived outside the city boundary.

After reducing our interview request, we tried to face Kinhan out of the Brentry house, and later outside our office in Tuntan on the same day.

Within a few hours of that exchange, Kinahan announced the resignation of the selectors from the board citing “personal reasons”.

Later, Kanhan sent a letter to the registrar’s board, in which the West Bridgewater has to prove to attend a hearing instead of being removed from the registered voter list.

Retired Massachusetts State Truper and Safety Analyst Todd McGi wondered why the investigation was not referred to to an external agency to avoid a possible conflict of interest. In the Kinahan community and in its elected position, he would have voted on things like Budhi, Budhi, Budh of Police Department.

“I think it’s potentially a strange investigation,” said McGi. “External agencies are sometimes benefited to remove that strangeness. Was all interviewed that should have been interviewed? ,

According to the report, Kinhan refused to speak with the police “politely”, as by his cousin.

There is nothing in the report, to indicate that someone else was interviewed about the residency issue.

In the last two weeks, West Bridgewater Police Chief Vijay Flehrti has not returned our phone calls or responded to our follow -up questions via email.

Khanahan also did not respond to our request to comment on the police investigation.

A spokesperson for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz told us that the West Bridgewater Police never contacted the prosecutors, who want to weigh the conclusions or whether there are sufficient potential reasons to move criminally.

Coin said, “I see a lot of ‘Mabs’ and ‘What-Ephs’, but I do not see a certain answer to this question that I think I should have been able to highlight the proper spy work.” “And the fact is, it all ended as a secret of another small town.”
