Service of longtime public official Joe Martin remembered

Martin’s career included time as the mayor of the Mayor (1977–1987) of Elkins, members of the House of Delegates, Majority Leaders at House of Delegates, Cabinet Secretary and other roles.


Former state legalist Rick Staton, who replaced Martin as the leader of the majority in 2001, stated that all public service of Martin was very honest.

“He was a strong believer in the institution of Capital,” Stateon told Metronws on Friday.

In 2001, Martin left the Legislature to become the Secretary of Military Affairs and Public Safety for New Gove Bob Wise. Martin at the time told Metronws that he was ready to change.

“I scratched my head several times (as a legalist) and said,” Why are they doing things like this? ” I am sure I could do it better, ‘and the Governor (Gover Bob Wise) has given me a chance, “Martin said.

West Virginia passed through two important floods during intelligent administration. Metronws caught with Martin during a 2001 trip to the flood-ups.

“I visited a house, where they really opened the door to run the water on one side and opened the door and let it run out from the other side at the lower level. There was a very serious damage, “Martin said.

When the wise left the office, Martin became the Deputy Chief of the Staff under the then village who became the Deputy Chief of the Staff.

Stateon said Martin was an effective state MLA who was very good in his role as a leader of the majority. He said that he would remember his understanding.

Stateon said that those who knew that Martin has been sharing stories since hearing about his death.

Stateon said, “We all found our special stories about him, but there is nothing right now, but love and sympathy are still there.”
