Minusa Community High School Versity Girls Bowling Team completed its season last week, landing second for the entire state of Illinois.
The team competed at the 2024 IHSA bowling state championship at Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Friday, 16 February and Saturday, 17 February.
Of the 24 participating teams, Minuka finished third on Friday and was one of the 12 teams to qualify for Saturday’s finals. The team bowled well on Saturday to finish the tournament in second place. During the tournament, Senior Annie Honsic scored an average of 211.5 points per game during the tournament, the sixth highest score of the tournament participants. During the tournament, Jena Richie scored 208.8 points per game and an average of 207.6 points per game during the tournament. This was enough to earn all three of them to earn all-state recognition.
“The team actually believed that we were going to succeed,” said coach Frank Uudgentis. “I think we surprised many people how well we bowl during the two -day program. I cannot express the positive leadership of seniors on this group and this team. What is a way to finish our career. It was very funny.”
Coach Mickey Rezander said that he was proud of girls for his achievements.
“The parts of a team and their ability to bowl are together as a team that eventually separated them in the trophy of another,” the Render said. “They were positive when things became difficult and picked up each other. It was very fun to see them all reaching their capacity. ,
The 2023-2024 teams include seniors Annie Honnsic, Ashley Oldenberg, Ashley Puim, and Jena Richie, Junior Kaylee Mainab, Sophomores Sophia Oberding and Kylie Steiner, Team Shree Frank Yudgentis and Mr. Mickey Render.
