Sandwich’s Ashlyn Strenz earns second consecutive state wrestling medal – Shaw Local

Bloomington- Sandwich Senior Ashlin Strenged did only two things in his mind after winning the match in 110 pounds in Grosinger Motors Arina on Saturday in IHSA Girls Wrestling State Final.

“Now it’s a mountain dew and time for a shemroke shake,” said Stranz.

Stranz (18–6), who finished fourth as a junior, defeated Bartlet Junior Emma Engels 4–1 and earned his second state medal. He started the day with a 21-6 technical decline for Sophomore Morgan Turner, the last state champion of the lockport, then dropped a 1-0 overtime consolation semi-final decision for Litchfield Freshman Relin Youngkar.

“I (Saturday) was ready to go mentally. “I had a clear mind and I was not worried about anything other than the best wrestling,” Stranz said. “My (Championship) was not the semi -final match because I would have liked, and my next match was where I fought in all the way till the end.

“In my previous match, I just wanted to wrestle the best as a high schooler and I was able to do so and finish my career with a win. In the last two years, for the state, and earning a medal, was more than as I could dream. ,

Physically less than 100%, Seneca Somomore Sammy Grisen (31–11) lost the Camp Point Central Sophomore Amber Loudback in a fifth position of 130 pounds in 5:40, but earned the first medal for fighting irish.

Gosen started the day at 2:57 with the championship semi-final Pinfall Los, which for the last state champion Sophomore Claudia Heney of Lockport, then suffered a 10–0 defeat to the Huntley Sophomore Obrey Roharbatcher 10–0 in the consolation semi.

“(Championship) After the semi -final match, I just tried to rest and tried to go to my heads that I had done wrong. The main thing was just mentally difficult, ”Gosen said. “I injured my shoulders and ribs in the regional people, and while those things have disturbed me since then, I just told myself that I needed to be difficult and through it.

“Last year I came some less to get a medal, so to be able to reach here again as a sophomore, I am excited not only today, but I am also excited for what I expect to fulfill in the next two years. I have a lot to make more goals to make. ,

Pirates Sofomore then fell 6–2 in the consolation semi-finals at Chicago Curie Senior Aliah Grandberry. In the fifth -place match, Thrush lost Hofman Estates Junior Anjali Gonzalaz in 3:34 through a pinfall.

“I reached my goal, my main goal of earning a medal,” Thrish said. “I know I did not do my best wrestling in the last two days. I could have been more powerful and I think I used a lot of energy in the first period of every match. I just burnt myself very quickly.

“This year I will move away from the state, this is that I need more confidence in myself. Many times many times I was doubting myself between matches and you cannot succeed in doing so. It would be the main thing that I am working in Offsen, mentally difficult, really and completely trusting myself and my abilities. ,

Sterling Pneumon’s freshman Blair Granon (17-3), who finished fourth in 100 pounds, said that he has a game plan that is coming in his blood-dore match and a pinfall against Chautham Glenwood Freshman Kadi Wilbaran (3:06) win against Chautham Glenwood Freshman Kadi Wilbaran.
