Huntley’s Janiah Slaughter finished runner-up at IHSA state tournament – Shaw Local

Bloomington – Janiah Slaughter can only see the bright side on Saturday afternoon on Saturday afternoon.

A Huntley Sophomore, Slotter, IHSA wanted to win a state championship on Saturday during her second visit to the individual state tournament, she really wanted to do her, which was improving her third place in the last year’s tournament.

Everything cannot be cured according to the plan when the slotter finished the runner-up at 105 pounds this year, but he completed his goal. Slaughter became the highest state plaser not only in the red raider history, but also in the history of McHenry County.

“I am still proud that I got the second,” slaughter said. “I was better than last year. This means that I am growing, I am improving. I am happy that I improved from last season. ,

Slaughter led a group of six McHenry County-sector wrestlers, which was placed in the tournament, the highest for the three-year history of the tournament. Huntley Sophomore Obri Rohrbacker (130) kept the third (140), Burlington Central Junior Victoria McAius (115) and Freshman Ryan Miller (170) and McHenry Sofomor Natley Corona (140).

Huntley finished sixth as a team after scoring 39 points. Lakes won the state championship with 61 while Lockport scored 58 points.

Slaughter in her 105 matchup against Angelina Gosis of Conland. Gochis hole 4–1 after the first period and 6–1 after the second a 2–0 before taking his lead. Gochis pushed late with slaughter, eventually won 8–2.

After realizing that the slaughter and Gochis had a similar style of wrestling, the slaughter admitted that she was hesitant to attack.

“I was scared to take my shots,” slaughter said. “But if I did, I knew that the match would be close or I could win.”

While Saturday did not go on Saturday in the same way that she wanted the slaughter, she said that it would make the high school of the last two years more interesting. In third place as a new person and second as a sophomore, in the mind of slaughter, there is only one place to go.

“This is definitely the goal,” slaughter said. “Be two -time state winners in two and two years. I am improving and I am excited for next year. I have a good coach, I have a good support system and I am excited. ,

After losing in the second round, Rohrbaikar was motivated to show reforms on Saturday. He was already inspired after taking the eighth last year and the disadvantage made his matches more important only on Saturday.

“I am still proud that I got another. I was better than last year. This means that I am growing, I am improving. I am happy that I improved from last season. ,

The third place match for 130 looked like a right place to improve for Rohrabacker. After winning three direct matches at the consolation bracket, Roshbaikar first placed his strongest performance together in his career.

“It matters a lot,” said Rohrbaikar. “I think this means that my hard work has finally paid. I have done a lot of work in this season and this is a big mental game. I think I finally live a part of that mental game.”

Rohbaikar ran away with a quick 4–0 lead in the first period before controlling the match. She won 12–0 after not allowing Minuka’s Edison Caletex to take a strong step on her.

Rohrabacker was proud of his ability to overcome some early adversities and also learns what it means to win in the state.

“I got a little taste of victory,” said Rohrbaikar. “I am going to return for more next year.”

McSscale reflected his wrestling career after finishing fourth in 140. She joined the game a few years ago, as she was bored and never thought that she would become a medal winner twice in the game.

While McSscale would have preferred to finish his high school career with a title, she is proud of what he has completed.

“Even though it is not at the top of the top, it is great to be here again,” said McCscale. “I am proud of my work, I am proud of myself and I am grateful to all those who came here to support me.”
