All Theresa wanted to play basketball at Romagnoli High School and did not let any one go, including boys.
“I remember my first date, this young man asked me on a date and he said,” Oh, let’s play the game of horse. ” Well, I added her butt, ”she said. “The next day he canceled the date. Mother said, “Maybe you should not have done this.” I said, “Okay, I don’t like to lose.”
Romagnoli, now Theresa Costelo, came on time to participate in the first season of girls basketball at Princeton High School.
Princeton was one of the first high schools of Northern Illinois to install girls basketball after the title IX was passed on 23 June 1972.
After the launch of volleyball in the 1973 collapse, PHS fielded its first girls basketball team in 1973-74. Nine girls came out for the first team under the direction of coach Julie Nagle, who was also the first volleyball coach.

“When we were at the end of it, we were finishing it,” Costello said. “We had a good coach. Julie Nagle. She was young, out of college. But she knew her belongings. He kept us through the pace, I will give it to him. He practiced us every day. Now a lot of what you are seeing. ,
Tigres overtook Hardwood 6-3 in their first season, but slipped to 0-8 next.
Even though the girls got to play, it did not mean that everyone likes it, Costelo said.
“There was still a lot of prejudice against girls’ athletes. You won’t think, oh, but there was there, “he said. “But he did not stop me playing basketball. I loved the game very much. ,
Costeello’s senior prediction stated that she would become the first female player for New York Nix. While she did not make that prediction true, her niece, Tia Romagnoli, became the best player in the history of the program and the best player, the best player among girls or boys.

Over the years
Princeton is known as a volleyball school and a state championship, 19 regional, 11 sections and four state qualifiers with good reasons.
However, that success has not translated girls into basketball.
It has been very thin years with just 14 winning season including 20-9 of this year. Campaign, a .500 seasons and 35 losing seasons.
Princeton Girls won their first regional victory under coach del Hanson in 1979–80, winning 9–10, and for the first year coach Brian Church in 1981–82 (11–9) its first winning season. He added his first win at the sectional level in 1985–86.
Over the years, Princeton Girls have won seven regional and a sectional in 2006–07 as Sweet 16 (Class A Superstitional). His last regional came in that season.
All said, based on the records available from BCR files and books of PHS year, the Princeton Girls Program is 494-715 (.409), which has been extended by recent abduction of 68–16 (.810) in the last three years.
Best team
John Smith took over as a head coach on the heels of 1-21 campaign in 1984-85 and immediately directed Tigress to his first regional championship, 11–13.
Smith said, “The team I had and what we did was impressive.” “I told a parents, could you ever imagine us to win regional?” I said, ‘No way.’ ,
Tigress liked it very much, he chased two in a row with two more regional championships, including 20–6 campaigns in 1986–87 and fourth in 1990–91 (10–15).
“To win the three, is one or two years old, and return in ’91 and win it with that group, it was special,” Smith said.
John Garvin’s 2005-06 Tigress won the first regional championship in its home court in 15 years, with Mendota exploded 47–25. He lost to the St. Bedi team led by KT Carls in the sectional semi-finals in Mendota 64-53, winning 21-8.
Spencer Davis took over as the head coach the following year, when Garvin retained many of the same artists and took it two steps away. Tigress played the first and only sectional championship of PHS and in two-class systems for a berth in Class A Sweet 16, in two-plans Brooke Jensen and two-class systems behind BCR co-players Brooke Jensen and Austin Miller.
Tigress defeated Mendota (38-23) and Indian Creek (61–39) for the Sectional Championship in Seneka for the regional championship in Arlville and the hall (38–32) and HBR (47-37).
In Class A. Monmouth Supersacental, the PHS ran into a red-hot Whitney Rumboald (27 points) of Stark County, who shot the rebels to win a 54–40 win over Tigress.
Davis said that his team was inspired to success.
“He worked hard in every game. Got better every week. They did not like to lose, ”said Davis. “We (St. Bed) deteriorated by a good IVC team in Christmas Tourni and we spoil them after a week. We did not lose well. There was a group of great girls. ,
Tigress finished 24–7, a single-season school record for victory that stood up to 16 years. They are the last PHS team for Postson Hardware.
The 2022-23 team coached by Darcy Capner won the most games in the history of the program, winning 27–5. In 2021-22, Konner has the best win at .913 in 21-2 squads.
There are six 20-win teams including 20-9 editions of this year. Others came in 1986–87 (20–6), 2005-06 (21-8), 2006-07 (24-7), 2021–22 (21-2) and 2022–23 (27-5).
