Shoppers, diners combat climbing food costs in NC

Whether you cook at home or go out to eat, food is spending more to everyone.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Americans are paying more than 2.6% across the board compared to 2023.

A report by the same agency states that the cost of food between 2022 and 2023 jumped more than 10%.

“Things have increased a lot,” said the Delores Body, who lives in Rale.

Michael Strong, who is opting for healthy food products, shared the same feeling except for food lion on Pole Road.

“Everything went up, everything became real high,” Strong said.

In addition to high prices at grocery stores, eating out is more expensive.

When comparing food costs, it will spend 5.8% more to consumers than in 2023, which is according to the February CPI report from the Labor Statistics Bureau.

Mike Walden, an economist, indicates labor costs as an important factor in raising prices in restaurants and markets.

“It is due to a large extent increased wages that both supermarkets, grocery stores, as well as the restaurant, have to pay,” Walden said.

Walden shared the following tips to save money because inflation is cold but food prices remain more:
