Miles Mastrobuoni tries to lock down an opening day roster spot

Mesa, Ariz. – Miles Mastrobuoni was not thinking that Sunday’s Cactus League Shodown was just an exhibition game as it tracked a fly ball on the left area wall in Slone Park.

In a mixture for one of the bench spots of the Chicago cub, Mastrobuni completely tracked the ball from the bat of Cleveland Guardian Catcher Austin Hedes and made a jump to pull back to the wall. Mastrobuni hit the wall barely, however, and could not catch the ball, which landed in the game for a double.

In this process, during an attempt to catch his head, the metal fence was slammed into the fence, causing a gush, but he remained in the game after examining the outside. This sequence wore starter Kyle Hendrix, who later told Mastrobuni that it is easy in spring.

“I appreciate the attempt, but I will take it to the weather,” Handrick said. “He plays outside all the time, man. He is the best. He is my boy. So I can’t thank him enough for the effort. He is already a cat of spring. She is fun to watch. ,

At the bottom half of the innings, Mastrobuoni took the first part of the spring, with a domestic run. Mike Touchman joked with mastrobuni in the dugout after his home run, in which a person kicked in the head about the stories of the old wives and then can tell fate: “You beat your head and turned into Ted Williams.”

The best way to help Mastrobuni’s cub will come from his versatility. He was told a few days ago that he was ready to add outfield work to his informed position play, something that he tasted in 2023 when he started five games in the Right Field during April.

“Last year, I was just thinking a lot today I really only told myself, just go there and be athletic,” said Mastrobuni. “I think I am a beautiful athletic boy, and you just will allow you to do that kind of work, right? Just like when we come in our head too and we think a little, oh, I need it and that’s okay, go there, go there and play loose because when you are thinking about you all you get tight.

“I really want that I pulled back that one, but a good start to make sure.”

Mastrobuoni took time to get into a rhythm last season, which was taking place between Triple-Aowa and the cub, and when he was in the big league, the time to play continuously was rare.

“This was mentally difficult on me – big time,” Mastrobuoni said. “If you are receiving three batsmen in that day or a week, then there is something that is really difficult to do. I did not do a great job on it. And I want to do a better job on it. But I understand it and not taking it very difficult. I took it a little bit. So just rely on myself, relying on my work and just after coming around the game, just be athletic and go there and let it take it. ,

Tauchmans became a valuable resource for mastrobuni last year, which started jerrying to exclude his ideas and did not bottom his feelings. Mastrobuoni gave importance to the insight of the fourth from six traveling sessions with four organizations. He asked Tauchman how to have the best infection in the position of a player and learned the importance of understanding someone’s strength.

“He is actually coming up with a good plan and obviously he is an unprecedented athlete and he feels that his swing is really a good place,” Touchman said about the mastrobuni. “If he is hitting the ball in this way and is able to help us in many positions, play shortstops, play left area, such as, it’s very valuable. I am excited for him this year. ,

Tauchman played a similar role earlier last year, starting the season in Triple A before earning a call-up and part-time role. By the end of the season, the Tauchman became a head of the lineup and at the top of the batting order of the cub. In this spring they would not be surprised whether they need to prove something in the camp to close a place on the roster on the early day roster. Manager Craig Counsel informed Tauchman on the first day of spring training that he would break the camp with the cub.

Beyond the position of his safe roster, what is the role of Tauchman and how much he is in the lineup at the beginning of the season depends on the issue how he forces the issue.

“This means that the challenge still goes on, like, you have to earn time to play,” COUNSELL said. “And this is how it should be and it is how it is going to be for the mic. But he batted a lot of quality last year and he is capable of doing so. Keep it at that place and will stay with those batsmen. ,
