In American culture, the seventh annual seminar of KU on Race & Sports will have a main speech from sports journalist Kevin Blackistone and a panel discussion with two former KU students-Athletes.
According to a news release about the program, Blackstone is a sportswater, writer, ESPN commentator and the University of Maryland Professor, an impressive voice among African American writers and editors. He is the co-producer and co-author of the documentary “Imagineing the Indian: The Fight Against Native American Mascoting”, and is a panelist on ESPN’s “Around the Horn”.

KU football player Derek Fine and female basketball player Austin Richardson will participate in a panel discussion during the seminar.
Shaun Leh Alexander, KU Professor, Chairman of African and African-American Studies and Director of Langston Hughes Center, said that this release said that the game is in a central place in American culture and society; It has “also served as symbolic sites of opposition, strength, inclusion and discrimination for racial minorities of America.”
Alexander said that the sports world allows to discuss several issues, including corporate power, race, gender, homophobia, urban planning, health and labor.
He said, “For the last seven years, KU has been at the forefront of this discussion with its annual seminar, and we are ready to continue our performance in the region and continue the conversation with this year’s spectacular event,” he said.
The doors open at 6:30 pm and the event is scheduled to start at Jaihock Welcome Center, 1266 Ored Avenue on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 pm. It is free to participate and open for the public. The organizers will accept donations benefiting the Langston Hughes Center.
