Charleston, W.V.
The village Jim Justice officially declared 12–16 February as the rethinking week of floods in the state, which is to recognize the floods that floods have influenced communities and infrastructure.
In exchange for the designation, Jones came on the metronus talkline to discuss the flood efforts of West West Virginia, which he said that the bus comes down to get better ready to respond to the flood.
“Here the entire key is to try to reduce future losses at all levels,” Jones said.
Jones said that flood mitigation efforts in the state are at the top as there are in -charge like village. Authorities with justice and WV Emergency Management Division are true advocates for such mitigation. He said between October 2022 and 2023, the state invested $ 1.5 million in flood mitigation projects.
Jones said that when FEMA reviewed the figures in West Virginia and saw an average annual announcement for floods twice a year, he said that when he decided that it was time to build and invest relationships.
He said that since then, they have been paying efforts, as West Virginia is moving forward in flood mitigation efforts.
He said, “We have done it in this state and it has spread, West Virginia was one of the leading states with this approach, and therefore it is spreading and other people are looking at the advantages,” he said.
Jones said that FEMA has an office with more than 30 staff members in the state who are offering everything from year -to -year preparations to long -term recovery.
He said that if there is an adjacent weather that pose a threat of floods, he already has local relations established, by county emergency management, and it allows FEMA to respond to the flood and work together to move the process more efficiently.
From 28 August to 30 August, 2023, five counties including Kanwa, Bune, Clay, Calhoun and Harrison Counties were severe flash flooding, and in view of this, left a series of damage to homes and infrastructure.
Jones said that FEMA currently has services deployed in those counties when they were able to receive a federal disaster declaration on 31 January, months after that flood, Fives.
He said that they are deploying door-to-door to disaster assistance to assess the damage and assist the affected residents, who fill the disaster aid applications to receive reimbursement from damage, along with three disaster recovery centers, to assist three disaster recovery centers.
Jones said that the floods in Kanva County were particularly severe and widespread-spread, they have ensured that the residents there have more access to their services.
He said, “We are ready to answer, and one of the important work we did in Kanva County was that we admitted that the floods have not been in the same part, so we have actually installed on both sides of the river, the disaster recovery center,” he said.
Disaster Recovery Center is currently 1100 AD in Belle Town Hall, Belle. Penn VA Coal Carbon Center with DuPont Avenue, and State Route 61 in Chespic has been installed at 13905 McCoural Avenue. 301 W Main Street has also been set up at Harrison County Courthouse in Clarksburg.
Jones said that FEMA has continued to invest in flood mitigation projects and formed relations to achieve the highest level of floods, which he said that it is important in dealing with the problem of floods in West Virginia.
Jones said, “This is a total of your local preparation, in investing in mitigation for infrastructure to help prevent future losses at the state level,” Jones said.
According to a study, West Virginia experienced over 1,600 floods from 2010 to 2021.
In 2016, a particularly devastating flood hit the state and brought a continuous range of rainfall over a 24 -hour period in 12 counties. The storm claimed the lives of 23 people and destroyed thousands of homes and hundreds of businesses.
