Champaign – Colin Karigan’s impact on the Glenbird West Wrestling Program can only be measured by titles.
He already put his comrades to his comrades, showing his mental and physical training methods to his comrades to become a state champion and put his championship stamp on the hilltopers.
A transfer from the Wrestling factory’s Marmian, Karigan brought his talent to the Glen Elin Campus this season.
“I think we have not done a finalist even after 1966 or at least at least some crazy,” Carigan said. “I was new this year, so staying here and helping the program was sweet.”
Karigan provided his best example against Leon Senior Gunar Gareli in the Class 3A 165-Pound State Championship match on Saturday night.
Carringan struggled with an acquaintance enemy in Garley. Both wrestlers share a bond through their college commitment. Carrigan is a northern carolina recruitment, while Garelli is a Virginia Tech signator.
Two ACC wrestlers of the future are very familiar with each other after facing each other in the regular season, as well as in regional and sections this season, leading to a third Postsen match in the state tournament.
As expected, the Karigan-Gleely match should have been extended to overtime at Matt 3. Karigan celebrated his 6–5 victory with double-busp pose, while a circle around the mat allowed all sections of the Arena to notice their achievement.
This was actually a historical. Karigan Glenbard became the second state champion of the West, from the 1965–66 season.
“I got the job,” Carigan said.
Gareli (47–3), who finished fourth in the state in the state last season to become the first all-storey in Leon since 2017, lost to Karigan in the sectional finals. ,
In front of a large crowd on the match, the victory of Karigan’s sudden death made his record a brilliant 46–1.
Two western suburban conferences Silver opponents entered the final with a similar record in the playoffs, defeating Karigan among the regional people. Carigan returned the favor by defeating Gareli in sectional.
“It was difficult to re -prepare it for him because we have wrestled many times,” Carigan said. “I had to prepare mentally and I knew it was going to be a dogfite and he wanted it to be as much for me. I had to work.”
David Meora of Montini won 3–2 over IC Catholic’s Body Kelly in Class 2A150-Pound title match. Meora (38–1) stated that he met his season-length target, struggling for six minutes to achieve a state title against a quality rival in Kelly (33–8).
“I was able to work, so I am happy and everyone is happy,” said Meora. “I had a great season. I felt that I should push the speed more, but I am happy with the title of the state.”
IC Catholic Senior Michael Calcagno (51-4) failed the state tournament as a sophomore after capturing a state title due to an ACL injury last season.
A standout football player, Calcagno, to win the state title in 2A in 215 pounds from a hard injury -filled junior season, wins Rochelle’s Conden Morris in the second round in the second round for his second career title.
“I just went there and completed it,” Calcagno said. “I controlled my situation and extended their mistakes. I still have team sectional on Tuesday. Last year was difficult because I tore my ACL, but I did it this year.”
His team’s partner, Deven KC, won his record by 34–4 by winning the IC Catholic title in 120 pounds, including Glenwood star wrestler Drew Davis (42-1), three-time defending state champions 3–0.

Montini Freshman Alan Wu fulfilled his season with a 2A 106-pound state title to fulfill this season-length promise, which shutdown veteran Vukonda Junior Gavin Rocky for the second straight week with a 7–4 win in the final.
“I work hard in the practice room and were training every day,” Wu said. “My family and my coaches helped me. My brother taught me everything and he got me in the game.”
The Edgar mosquito of the Rivaruside-Bruckfield finished second in class 2A in 113 pounds, losing to Satya Vesi of Rock Island.
“I’m upset, but I know I am going to make it next year,” the mosquito said. “I worked hard and thought that I can become a champion, but now I am going to work even more. I learned that I have to be fast.”
Hinsdale Central Senior Marco Ivnisevik lost to Dillon Johnson, a four-time state champion at the 3A 285-Pound Championship, via a pin to Dillon Johnson. In 1A, St. Francis Sophomore Jelane Torres suffered a 2–1 defeat to Jason Dowel of Althoff Catholic in an enthusiastic bout in a 285-pound final.
Other region medal winners included Jack Percy of York, fifth in Class 3A 132; Downers Grove South’s Matt Lapasek, fourth place in class 3A 190; Mickey Malizio of Montini, third in class 2A 113; Montini’s work Luif, third in class 2A 132; Omar Samayoa of IC Catholic, fifth in class 2A 132; Third in IC Catholic Bryson Sparing, Class 2A 138; Third in IC Catholic Pat Mulene, class 2A 144; Noah O’Coner of Lamont, fifth in class 2 A150; Third in Harrison Kondar of Montini, Class 2 A157; IC Catholic that Glitta, Third in Class 2A 165; IC Catholic’s Foli Calcagno, third in class 2A 190; Alex Passquel of Lamont, fifth in class 2A 285; And Lincoln Hogger of the Weon Academy, class 1 A126 in fifth place.
