David Vargas provides spark for Sandburg

Sandberg’s David Vargas has good things after a skull collision.

The senior guard faced a gush near his left eye in the February 7 game against Tinley Park. He left the gym in the first quarter to get five stitches and was lucky that the injury was no harm.

“We were running our press brakes and I put it in a corner,” Sawas said about the drama. “I got stuck and I turned my head around, and we had a head contact with the head.

“I kept my forehead open. There was a good amount of blood but not a ton. ,

Two days later, the square came back to court playing a large strip. He ended with 19 points in a loss of 65–52 to host Lincoln-Vay East, scoring his 1,000th career point in that game.

Then, the classes hit for 38 points and set a program record with nine 3-pointers to close the regular season 13 February 13 in the 80–76 south-west suburban blue win in the lockport.

“There are nights where things get cold or they become hot,” said the square. “That night I had a lot of faith in myself. The first half slipped in a way and we were below 20.

“But I kept shooting the ball and they were going inside. I would have to thank my comrades for getting the ball.”

Sandberg coach John Daniel, a former coach of the Stag, enjoys looking at the progress of the class in the last three years.

Daniels said, “He is one of the top shooters, if not the top shooter, I have ever done as a coach,” Daniel said. “When you have seen the players I have coached from (Max) Stus (Derius) Draper to Dwire … I mean, I have done some tremendous shooters over the years.”

The 6 -Foot -1 class is receiving notices from NCAA Division III schools including North Central College, which has been trained by former Sandberg sharpshooter Vince Kimik.

Slavas, who look prominent in nursing, expect to be able to play basketball in college.

When he was getting stitched to talk to the shop with doctors and nurses, he missed on an occasion because his mind was somewhere else.

“I was focusing on whether we are going to win the game or not,” said Slavas. “I was texting my coaches. But I did not know that we won till after the game. ,

Accused on the title of the conference

The South -West Suburban Red was shared by two schools winning the first conference title in the history of the program.

Lincoln-way ended with 5-3 records to tie for West and Stag Championship. For the stag, which was opened in 1966, it has been a long wait.

Chargers needed to defeat Bradley-Borbonis on the road, winning 50–45 on February 13 for a stock. It was contrary to the Stag’s 90-64 win over Bilemakers on 27 January in Palos Hills.

“It is always a difficult place to play down for Bradley,” Stag coach Marti Stus said. “We defeated Bradley a few weeks ago when we scored 90 points, and we knew that we would have to find a different way to win in their place.

“We certainly did them by holding them up to 45 points.”

Scoring growth

Junior Guard Matas Gidukwikius on Thursday won the Lamont’s 84-70 win over Hinsdale South for 38 points, and for those who were thinking that coach Rick Ranas was waiting for a while.

“We knew he could shoot and score,” Ranaas said. “But he injured the season and is working in his own way.”

“In 30 years of coaching, he is one of the few players I have to say to shoot me more.”
