Lake Forest – A big week is ahead for bear.
General Manager Ryan Poles and Head Coach Matt Abberflus have a lot of work to do a lot of work in NFL Scouting Commonen in Indianapolis next week. The week -long coalition will have to interview 321 athletes and work for all 32 NFL teams.
For teams, this is a chance to have an approach to the hands for their scouting process. He has seen countless hours of tape on all these players, but now he has a chance to ask questions and get medical evaluation.
There is a huge offsen in front of the bear. They capture both number 1 and number 9 overall draft pics in 2024 drafts. They have a chance to achieve two highly touched possibilities. Combine is another large milestone to determine who they will choose.
There are four burning questions here as the head of Indianapolis this week.
- 1. Is Kaleb Williams really the answer?
- 2. Can a bear get WR2?
- 3. How can bears improve their defensive line?
- 4. How much is it to draft a center?
1. Is Kaleb Williams really the answer?
With number 1 overall pick, bears catch all cards. If they want USC Quarterback Kaleb Williams, he is to pick them up. If they feel that they are better than top pick trading and trading with Justin fields, then it is also an option. They control the draft board a lot.
To be clear, they are unlikely to come to a decisive conclusion in combination. The alliance interviews with possibilities are quick. If the bears are going to invest the top pick in Williams, they would like to talk with him for a more extended period. Those types of interviews are usually on dinner around Prospect Pro Day.
But bears can still start checking their relationship with Williams. The same goes to Drake May of North Carolina and Jeden Daniel of LSU.
Who are these quarterbacks, such as people, more or more than their abilities on the field.
“Person. This is the largest part, ”Poles said in January. “I have great faith in our ability to see talent on the field. Man, we came to know. ,
2. Can a bear get WR2?
In his first year, DJ Moore met with Bears and crossed all expectations. He received 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns for one of the best receiving seasons in the team’s history.
But he got very little help.
Bears need to find a second dynamic receiver to pair with Moore. Darnell Muni, who will become a free agent, does not see the answer. But the top of the draft has several promising receivers. The 2024 draft is expected to deepen in the position of the receiver, going as five or six in the first round.
Ohio State’s Marwin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers of LSU, Rome Odunj of Washington, Brian Thomas Jr. of LSU, Keon Coleman of Florida State and Edonai Mitchell of Texas all have the first round grade, per ESPN’s Big Board.
The bear will have options with that number 9 pick. Harrison is going to be almost certainly a top-five pick and possibly the first non-quarterback taken in the draft. But for all those other names, the game for beers at number 9 can be in the game.
3. How can bears improve their defensive line?
After connecting the defensive end Montez sweat midway through the season last year, the bears defensive line (and defense as a whole) improved significantly. But the bear still has space to improve with the defensive line. Defensely, this is one of their greatest needs.
They need to find a “3-technic” defensive tackle to disrupt things from the middle and find another defensive end for the pair unlike sweat. Generally, the top of this year’s draft is not considered heavy in talent on the defensive line. There is no Will Anderson or Jalan Carter, which was both the top -10 pics last year.
But there are some complicated options in the last half of the first round and day 2 of the draft. If the bears trade below number 1 or number 9, one edge congestion or defensive tackle may be an option. Some top edges Rashers include Jared Shloka of Florida State, Laetu Lattoo of UCLA and Chop Robinson of Pen State. Illinois’s Johnny Newton is expected to be a top defensive tackle.
4. How much is it to draft a center?
The Bears offensive line is now much better than a year ago. The only important hole on the line is in the center. Beers already released Kodi Whitehair and Lucas Patrick is ready to become a free agent. Currently the only center on the roster is Daug Cramer, which spent most of the 2023 season in the practice squad.
The Center is one of the biggest needs of the team. This is also a situation that does not usually draft teams too much. No one has selected a center with the top -20 pick since 2019, and in the last 15 years, there were only two first round centers in a draft (2018). It is being said, the hit rate at the first round centers is quite high.
Interestingly, however, this draft has two centers that may be potential first round pics. Oregon’s Jackson Power-Johnson and Duke’s Graham Barton may be of the first round. To be clear, bears are unlikely to take a center with top -10 picks. If they trade down in the first round, or if they find a way to get a second round pick, the center must be completely on the table.
A rogue quarterback and a crook cannot be ideal during being a center, allowing people to give together the bank representative together that can pay huge dividends in the future.
